Indian hockey is moving rapidly to and fro for the moment as India's ace winger Rajpal Singh dramatically took a U-turn on Wednesday, after staging pull out from the crucial Olympic qualifiers on Tuesday, and stated that he is committed to play for India in the upcoming qualifiers in Chile.
Rajpal struck back with a reverse hit denying straightway that he had not made any statement whatsoever regarding differences with Chief coach Joaquim Carvalho.
Rajpal clearly stated that he has not spoken to any mediaperson since his arrival to Perth on February 3. Rajpal being quoted by a television channel that he would not take part in the upcoming qualifiers, as there is someone above us who controls us and I won’t compromise with my self-respect.
Rajpal cleared the air by saying that there is no rift at all and whatever emerged back home is just to create confusion among the players and the coaching staff.
Rajpal is currently with the Indian team at Perth, for the final preparations prior to the start of Olympic qualifiers. He clearly stated that he is fully focussed on playing the qualifiers in Santiago, Chile starting next month, as it was his long-cherished dream to play in Olympics and be an Olympian.
However, Rajpal's negation came as a surprise since the television interview was recorded. But it surely gives us some feeling that something could have been sorted out behind the curtains after the intervention of Indian Hockey Federation top shots.
