Bangalore, Sep 4 (ANI): Former Karnataka Health Minister B. Sriramulu, who is an accused in the illegal mining scam along with the mining barons Reddy brothers, G Janardhana and G Karunakara, quit the Karnataka Assembly on Sunday after being upset for not been given the ministry again.
Sriramulu said that his image was damaged following the state Ombudsman's report on illegal mining in Karnataka.
"My 'Swabhimaan' (self esteem) has been severely battered and there is nothing bigger than Swabhimaan. In this backdrop even the electorate are supporting me. I am touring the entire state. I am resigning as a legislator and will be submitting my papers to the speaker," Sriramulu told mediapersons here.
"I will begin my Swabhimaan tour across the state starting tomorrow (September 05). I will tour every district and Taluka (village) throughout the state. I will bring to the notice of people what Swabhimaan means and how they have hurt my sentiments," he added.
Sriramulu contests elections from the Bellary rural constituency in iron-ore rich Bellary district, about 300 km from Bangalore city.
He, however, has not quit the state's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Former Karnataka Loakyukta Justice (retired) Santosh Hegde's independent inquiry into mining graft in Karnataka had accused former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa and other key officials of causing a loss of at least 1685 crore rupees to the state exchequer between 2006 and 2010. (ANI)
