New Delhi, Sep.3 (ANI): Representatives of the Central Government and the rebel United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) on Saturday inked a deal that will bring an end to security operations in Assam and also reduce insurgent-related violence in the state.
The deal was reached here during the second round of talks between the two sides. According to reports, ceasefire ground rules were primarily discussed.
The ULFA team was represented by its 'finance secretary' Chitrabon Hazarika, 'foreign secretary' Sashadhar Choudhury and 'deputy commander-in-chief' Raju Baruah.
Earlier, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi had told reporters in Guwahati that the ULFA and other insurgent organisations demand for a separate state would not be entertained.
"We are making it clear that there will be no separate state as demanded by the KLNLF, the NDFB (National Democratic Front of Bodoland) and UPDS (United Peoples Democratic Front)," Gogoi had said.
Stating that most of the militant outfits were willing for peace talks, the Chief Minister said, "We want to sign an agreement soon with the KLNLF and UPDS. (ANI)
