VHP leader denounces proposed communal violence bill

Lucknow, Aug 29 (ANI): Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) international president Ashok Singhal has warned of a big movement if the proposed Prevention of Communal and Targeted Violence (Access to Justice and Reparations) Bill 2011 is passed by Parliament.

Addressing a news conference here on Sunday, Singhal said: "The Hindu community which is in majority in India is being presented as the aggressors and the main reason for spreading communal violence in the country. The other group which includes Christians, Muslims and people belonging to the backward classes are portrayed as the victims."

Criticising the proposed Communal Violence Bill as a threat to the Hindu community, Singhal claimed that Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi is trying to give the Hindu community a bad name in the world.

"Sonia Gandhi has formed an advisory council which includes around 15-20 people and such selective people are part of the group who go out in the world to give India and the Hindus a bad name. She has selected those people who work against the sentiments of Hindus," added Singhal.

He further said that if the Bill, would be passed, then only Hindu society would be blamed for communal violence while the Muslims and Christians could not be tried for communal violence even if it is a case of rape, loot, arson or torture committed by them.

Further referring to the allegations that Hindu organisations were behind Anna Hazare's campaign against graft, Singhal said that although he had respect for the Gandhian activist but has serious doubts on the authenticity and character of those who are associated with him.

"We respect Anna Hazare but those with him in the name of civil society have earned crores of rupees illegitimately and tell us that they come here to fight against corruption. They are not worth their claims. The people who claim to be from the civil society have themselves become the leaders, was that right when they abused the politicians and did not allow any lawmakers to enter the Ramlila ground?" he added.
