Trichy (Tamil Nadu) Sep 27 (IANS) The domestic power industry should look for indigenous technology to stay cost-competitive, a top industry official said here Saturday.
'Ahead of Chinese and other foreign players catching up, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd and others should inherit technologies matching the requirement of the local power plant operators,' Neyveli Lignite Corp Ltd director V. Sethuraman said while addressing the Energex-2008 conference on 'Advanced Technologies in Power Generation', organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)-Trichy zone.
The country's power sector needs a multi-pronged approach like high capacity building, development of reliable suppliers, well planned and deployment of indigenous technologies suitable to the peculiar Indian coal variety.
In his special address, C.K. Ranganathan, vice-chairman of CII-Tamil Nadu, urged the industries to simmer down the production cost, especially in tapping solar power in the country.
