Bijapur (Chhattisgarh), Aug 20(ANI): At least 11 policemen were killed in an ambush laid by the Maoists in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district on Friday.
"A team of the Chhattisgarh Armed Police was returning to the Bhadrakali base camp after a routine operation when Maoists attacked the party," a senior police officer said in Raipur.
Over 120 Maoists were involved in the attack, DD News reports.
The policemen were traveling in a tractor-trolley that was blown up by a landmine.
Immediately after the explosion, the Maoists opened fire.
The policemen, who survived the attack, are in a primary health centre in the Bhadrakali camp.
An hour after the attack, a team of 45 policemen patrolling the area reached the spot after getting wireless alerts.
The Maoists fired at them too, but this time four of the rebels were shot dead. (ANI)
