New Delhi, Aug 17 (ANI): Manish Sisodia, a close aide of social activist Anna Hazare on Wednesday said that in the absence of government permission to hold protests at a public park, they would turn the jail into the new epicentre of their anti-graft protests.
Addressing mediapersons, Sisodia said that senior members of the civil society will soon join him and they would continue their fast outside the Tihar Jail complex.
"Anna Hazare is sitting there and we are sitting outside just 200 steps away from him and this fast will continue. In a way this is a JP Park now," he added.
"Jail officials told Anna Hazare that according to them, he is free now and we have released you but Hazare told the police officials that where should I go from here and please tell me where should I fast? Presently, he is still maintaining this stand. Hazare told police officials that the permission that I was given to sit on a fast in JP park and the conditions that were imposed, should be removed," he said.
"On these grounds, he is still in the jail and does not want to be released. The police officers have negotiated with their seniors. In the morning, when I had a word with the police officers, they told me that though there no such decision was taken till night but some developments may take place in the morning," he added.
According to latest reports, Delhi Police is insisting that the fast onto death protest be limited to five days at J.P Park. But Hazare and his team have said that they are okay with a change of venue, but must be allowed to fast for at least a month.
Thousands of Hazare supporters are still present outside Tihar Jail and Chhatrasal Stadium in support of Hazare's crusade against corruption.
Hazare and key aide Arvind Kejriwal spent Tuesday night in the conference room of the Director General (Prisons) of Tihar Jail and reportedly slept barely for about four hours.
The Delhi Police arrested Hazare on Tuesday along with many of his supporters, hours before he was due to begin an indefinite hunger strike to demand tough laws against corruption. (ANI)
