Oslo, Aug 16 (ANI): Anders Behring Breivik, the man behind the July 22 terror strikes in Oslo and Utoya, understands that he is seen as a 'demon' but deemed massacre of over 70 people as 'necessary'.
With a bullet-proof vest to protect him from revenge attacks and on a police leash to prevent his escape, the far-Right extremist spent eight hours with police on the lake island of Utoya, where he carried out his attack last month.
The Telegraph quoted his lawyer Geir Lippestad, as saying that Breivik has understood the fact that people consider him a 'demon.'
But he added that the self-styled "Crusader" repeated to himself out loud on the journey to the island with police that the attack 'was necessary'.
Lippestad said it was a sentiment that his client had also felt when heading to the island.
"He has said that when he took the boat over he thought: 'I give up, I am not going to do this'," the paper quoted Lippestad, as saying.
"But then he thought that it was necessary to change Europe and Norway, as he says, and he went through with it," he added.
Breivik, in a document posted on the Internet, criticized Norway's ruling Labour party for supporting Muslim immigration and multiculturalism.
Police have said that the attacker expressed 'no remorse' for the killings during the reconstruction at the weekend. (ANI)
