Tehri (Uttar Pradesh), Aug.13 (ANI): Five persons were killed and another was injured, when a house was flattened due to cloudburst that hit Tehri district in Uttarakhand on Saturday.
The cloudburst struck around 2 in the morning, when people were asleep.
Residents said that all the bodies have been recovered from the debris of the house and the injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital.
"There is debris all around; it is due to the cloudburst. A family of 6-10 people used to live here, out of which 5 have been killed but one woman has been rescued and is admitted to a hospital. This family was stuck under the debris; five bodies have been taken away with the help of the locals," said Ankit Patwal, a local.
According to the local media reports, many houses and livestock were washed away.
The locals complained that even after 10 hours, no help was provided by the administration and no rescue teams had reached the spot.
"No rescue facility is been provided, local revenue officer said that rescue workers are arriving, stretchers will be provided to take the injured to the hospitals, but why haven't they arrived till now, will somebody answer this? It is one in the afternoon and even after 10 hours, no aid has been provided, somebody is saying that minister would be arriving or SDM (Sub-Divisional Magistrate) would be arriving, but we need rescue team and it should be sent soon," said Ashish Naudiyal, another local.
However, the government officials said that teams of senior police and administrative officers have rushed to the spot for search and rescue operation.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank announced relief of Rs. 1, 00,000 for the victims.
