Edgbaston , Fri, 12 Aug 2011 ANI

Edgbaston, Aug 12(ANI): England opening batsman Alastair Cook on Friday registered his second double century and led his team to 646-6 at tea on day three of the Edgbaston Test against India.

England, replying to India's 224, extended their lead to 422 runs.

Cook was unbeaten on 266, while Tim Bresnan was on 19.

The left-handed opening batsman has batted for almost 12 hours and bettered his previous Test-best 235 not out against Australia in Brisbane last year.

Cook's effort was the second-longest Test innings by an England batsman, surpassing Ken Barrington's 256 in 683 minutes, the Telegraph reports.

Only Len Hutton has batted longer, during his record score of 364.

Eoin Morgan (104) also played his part with his second Test hundred in a fourth-wicket stand of 222. (ANI)
