Washington, Aug 12 (ANI): Miss America Teresa Scanlan has said that the Newsweek magazine describing Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann as the 'Queen of Rage' on its cover, is definitely 'sexist'.
Minnesota congresswoman Bachmann appeared on the latest issue with her eyes bulging, looking frozen like a deer in headlights.
Many conservatives criticized the magazine, and accused it of sexism and liberal bias.
When asked whether she considers the cover sexist, Scanlan said that she 'absolutely think so'.
"I absolutely think so. Not because there's a difference of political opinions there, but because Newsweek has had other candidates who they haven't agreed with," Politico quoted Scanlan, as saying.
"They've had Rush Limbaugh on the cover, they had former candidates Mike Huckabee and John McCain on their covers, and whenever they have a male on their cover, even if they don't agree with them as far as policy goes, they portray them in a serious light," she said.
"Then, as we saw two years ago with the Sarah Palin cover in her running shorts, and then now with Michele Bachmann. They simply try to degrade women and make fun of them and portray them in a negative light, and I think that shows extreme sexism," she added.
The magazine's editor in chief, recently said in a statement that, "Bachmann's intensity is galvanizing voters in Iowa right now, and Newsweek's cover captured that." (ANI)
