Sitapur (Uttar Pradesh), Aug 10 (ANI): The incessant rainfall resulting in flood has added to the agony of the locals here, who are stranded without food and water.
Villagers complained of apathy from local authorities and added that they had not received any aid or relief from the government.
"The village is surrounded by Sharda, Sarju, Dhaura and Ghagra rivers, which are in spate. At the same time, floods are causing rapid entrenchment of the banks due to which we are speculating that soon this village would be deluged by raging floodwaters. There is no provision of evacuating the villagers who are facing a severe crisis of drinking water and food materials," said Shyam, a flood victim.
"Villagers are forced to sleep on rooftops of huts with their families. They are somehow managing to cook 'roti' (wheat bread) and eat it with salt after three to four days and many times are deprived of even that," he added.
Around 25 villages are facing the danger of being completely submerged by floodwaters.
These villages are inhabited by over 150 families.
Since the past 48 hours, the locals here are awaiting for assistance from the government. In their hope to receive help, they tend to gather near the riverbanks whenever they see a motorboat approaching.
Local authorities here said that senior administrative officials conducted periodical inspections in the flood-affected areas and assured that relief would be provided to the victims.
"I have spoken to the SDM (sub divisional magistrate) in this matter and ADM (additional divisional magistrate) had also inspected the affected area. Whatever provision of relief that they want be it boats etc, everything would be made available to them," said Ajay Kumar Shukla, District Magistrate.
The monsoon this year has caused heavy floods in several states like Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, causing heavy devastation to life and property. (ANI)
