Second T20 loss to Lanka extremely disappointing: Watson

Kandy (Sri Lanka), Aug.10 (ANI): Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has described the loss to Sri Lanka in the second Twenty20 international as "extremely disappointing", and still believes that the tourists "should have cruised over the line".

In an article for Fox Sports, Watson said: "Our first Twenty20 match didn't exactly go to plan. Tillakeratne Dilshan batted exceptionally well after we got off to a very solid start with the ball. He certainly tested us out and unfortunately our lack of game time showed through in our performance. David Warner batted very nicely, but in the end 198 was a few too many for us to chase."

"In the second Twenty20, from the bowling side of things we were much closer to our best. John Hastings, especially, bowled a brilliant spell to ensure we were chasing a very reachable target of 157," he added.e said that there was no real reason for Australia to collapse the way it did after he and Dave Warner got off to a really fast start.

"When I got out, we needed 89 runs from 86 balls with nine wickets in hand to win the match. But unfortunately for our sake, Ajantha Mendis had other ideas and took a record 6-16 from his four overs to win the match for Sri Lanka. For me, this was an extremely disappointing loss for a game in which we should have cruised over the line," Watson said.

"We weren't able to stop our middle-order collapse against the very skillful Mendis, and we now know more than ever what the Sri Lanka's are going to continue to throw at us for the rest of this entire series: spin," he added.

"We are certainly going to have to execute our game plans much better - against spin, especially - if we are going to have the success that we want on this very important tour," Watson said. By Praful Kumar Singh (ANI)
