New Delhi, Aug 3 (ANI): Corporate Affairs Minister Veerappa Moily will inaugurate the four-day festival being organised by the Karnataka Yakshagana Academy, Bangalore and Academy of Tenkutittu Yakshagana, Delhi, from August 4 to 7 here.
Noted Yakshagana artist and President of Karnataka Yakshagana Academy Mr. Kuble Sundara Rao will preside over the function.
This festival is being organised to popularize few variants of Yakshagana at the national level.
Many local cultural organizations are also geared up for this grand event, which will be inaugurated at 6.30 am tomorrow at Delhi Karnataka Sangha Auditorium (Rao Tularam Marg,, RK Purma Sector -12, New Delhi-23, Ph: 26109615).
Even though Yakshagana emerged as a unique art form today, it has multiple existences in Karnataka. Doddata, Sannata, Moodalapaya and Paduvalapaya are its regional variations.
Moodalapaaya is performed in northern parts of Karnataka and Paduvalapaya is popular in coastal Karnataka, which includes the districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Shimoga, Chikkamagalur, Coorg and in the adjoining areas like Kasaragodu of Kerala State.
The coastal Yakshagana again has two main variations called tenku tittu (Southern style) and Badagu Tittu (Northern style). Both styles have a night long stage performances with music, dance, costumes and dialogues.
Talamaddale is another form, which has only spoken world. However after Dr. Shivaram Karanth, nobody has tried to popularize this art form in National or International level.arious performances and demonstrations have been arranged at various places at Delhi as part of the festival.
There will be performances at Delhi Karnataka Sangha on the evening of these three days, which includes a talamaddale (Oral performance), a musical Shrikrishna Parijata and mythical episodes performed in both Northern and Southern styles.
Lecture demonstrations have been arranged at National School of Drama on August 5, 10. -1 pm), and at the Department of Modern Indian Languages, Delhi University on August 5 (3-6 pm).
Noted artists of Yakshagana, Mr. Chittani Ramachandra Hegade, Keshva Kolagi, Puttige Raghuram Holla, Padyana Shankaranarayana Bhat, Dr. Kolyur Ramachandra Rao, Surikumer Govinda Bhat and many others are participating in these four days festival.
Karnataka Higher Education Minister Dr. VS Acharya will be giving concluding remarks on the concluding day of the festival on August 7. (ANI)
