Jorhat, July 24 (ANI): Table tennis is gaining enormous popularity among sports enthusiasts in Assam.
The recently concluded three day long Hiren Baruah Memorial tournament in Jorhat saw a 30 per cent increase in the number of participants.
The event that was organized by Jorhat District Table Tennis Association, under the aegis of Assam Table Tennis Association, saw 320 participants in all the categories.
Fourteen-year-old Shankar Gautam Baruah from Golaghat district, who won the Hiren Baruah Memorial tournament, in the junior category, said "I feel good as it is the first time that I have won such a big event."
"I am practicing very hard and will make my way through to the international level and win laurels for my country," said Murshana Gohain, another player. (ANI)
