Kulgam (Kashmir Valley), July 22 (ANI): Residents of Kulgam staged a protest on Friday against the alleged gang rape of a woman, Rukaya Bano, by two army personnel.
A shutdown was observed in South Kashmir's Kulgam district on Friday.
The incident came to light after Rukaya Bano charged two Indian Army soldiers of abducting and subsequently raping her on July 19.
Bano had also complained that the accused had forcibly detained her in a hut for over two days.
The army has said that it would properly investigate the incident. An inquiry team has already been set up to investigate the incident.
Superintendent of Police, Kulgam District, Mubashir Latefi, asserted that a case was filed against the accused under Section 366 (kidnapping and abduction) and Section 377 (punishment for rape) of the Indian Penal Code. (ANI)
