Puri (Orissa), July 15 (ANI): Attempting to spread awareness about eradicating the menace of militancy from the entire world, renowned sculptor artiste Sudarsan Pattnaik has created an eight-feet-high sand sculpture on the theme 'stop terrorism' in Orissa's Puri city in the wake of the serial blasts in Mumbai.
Condemning the Mumbai blasts, Patnaik said: "It is very sad that a terrorist attack took place. Terrorists are repeatedly attacking India. So this (terrorism) has spread like cancer in the entire world. So whichever way possible, we have to eradicate it (from the world)."
A combination of sand in five different tones was used to create the beautiful sculpture.
The sculpture attracted scores of people from nearby areas. Some of them had come to see the sand work, while others wanted to meet the renowned sand artist Pattnaik.
"(It is) amazing, because we have heard about Sudarsan Pattnaik and seen him on TV, but now it is a pleasure to see him in action and then how he is doing it. It is amazing that immediately something happens in society, he picks up the theme. And here it is, as you can see, it (theme) is terrorism and how we should react to it," said Hari Das, an onlooker.
It took Pattnaik and his students five hours to complete the sculpture.
At least 18 persons have died and another 134 persons are reported to have been injured. The condition of around 13 persons is reported to be critical.
The three serial blasts rocked Opera House at 6: 54 p.m., Zaveri Bazaar, a popular jewellery market, at 6: 55 p.m., and Kabutar Khana, Dadar at 7: 06 p.m. on July 13. (ANI)
