US moves to protect Osama raid mastermind 'John' after Al-Qaeda threat

Washington , Thu, 14 Jul 2011 ANI

Washington, July 14(ANI): The United States' Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has moved to protect the analyst who played a central role in the secret military operation to kill Al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden.

The move follows intelligence reports that Al-Qaeda was trying to identify the US agents who helped plan the May 2 raid on bin Laden's compound in Pakistan's Abbottabad city, the Dawn reports.

The analyst, identified only as 'John', was reportedly pictured on the edge of the famous Situation Room photo released by the White House after the raid.

He was a so-called "overt" officer, and not considered deeply undercover.

However, he is now being given undisclosed protection to ensure that he does not become an Al-Qaeda target.

According to US media reports, John's principal job was to find bin Laden.

He is said to have been one of the driving forces behind a string of captures of prominent Al-Qaeda figures, including Abu Zubaydah, Abd al-Nashiri, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, Ramzi bin Alshib, Hambali and Faraj al-Libi, and advocated increasing the number of drone strikes in Pakistan. (ANI)
