The Bharatiya Janta Party has postponed a chain of rallies “Suraksha Sankalp Yatra” which was to be organised across the country ahead of Lok Sabha elections based on intelligence report which said of a possible suicidal threat to L K Advani.
It is reported that after being advised by the senior leaders Advani called off his plan to address the rallies but later the party spokesman Prakash Javadekar told media persons that the party has decided to go with the rally in Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh and Mahila Morcha rally at Delhi in support of women’s reservation.
The information of threat was conveyed to Advani by National Security Adviser M K Narayanan based on intelligence inputs. He also advised Advani to limit his public appearance in Delhi or outside it.
Giving an account of the information received by Narayanan, Javedkar said, “All rallies would be rescheduled later keeping in mind the information given by the National Security Adviser and the approaching Parliament session.”
Rampur rally was abandoned for security reasons as the rally here will pull large crowds and the recent attack at CRPF camp at Rampur cannot be ignored.
The centre is planning to beef up the security of Advani who comes under Z plus security and earlier too his rally was attacked at Coimbatore in 1998 in which several people died.
Though the whole episode has left the BJP embarrassed to withhold the rally ahead of the threat but decision was taken to avoid any danger to the leader. Last year Advani continued Bharat Suraksha Yatra even after government warning but this time the party is planning to reschedule the rallies.
Attack on the leaders at public rally has become an easy task where large gathering become a problem for security personnel.
