Former Army officers collectively appealed to Pak President Parvez Musharraf to step down and hand over the power to former Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Chaudhry, who is still in house arrest since last three months. The ex-servicemen were gathered to attend the meeting over ‘current political situation in Pakistan in the capital on Thursday.
A group of elite retired army officers has asked to Pak president to relinquish the president seat to his so called rival Ex-CJP Chaudhry to prove his words “the election in Pakistan will be free and fair” what he has said in his European tour because, “There is no chance of free and fair election until Musharraf is in the power”, said retired Air Marshal Asgar Khan.
“Musharraf have to leave the seat to restore democracy in the country,” he added.
“Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry is still Chief Justice of Pakistan”, he said reminding Musharraf though president Musharraf has deployed him from his seat when he imposed the ‘emergency law’ in the country.
“Justice Rana Bhagwandas should employ as a Chief Election Commissioner of the country and the Election commission should be reconstitute,” asked the gathered crowd in the meeting.
The crowd has also asked to get free to nuclear scientist Dr. A K Khan and also advised government to ‘either get him free or get him under trial to face the accusation.’ Dr. Khan, also known as the ‘missile man of Pakistan’ has been sent to jail for alleged crime to distributing the nuclear secret to Iran, Libya and North Korea.
“President Musharraf is damaging the country and society have no plan to contact Army chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani,” said former air force chief Khan. However he said that society had not set the line for him to leave the chair.
Another ex-serviceman Gen Mirza Aslam Beg has accused Musharraf for defaming the image of the armed forces and appealed to all all ex-servicemen to help the society to restore it.
“We should also work together to strengthen democracy by removing the only impediment in its way, Pervez Musharraf,” said Mirza Beg.
The voice of protest against president Musharraf is increasing day by day while now UN has also raised the finger towards the forth-coming election.
“Is the next election going to free and fare?,” asked UN official in a statement.
On the other hand, President is firm to remain in the power and unlikely to leave the top seat as he had already took off the uniform of Army Chief. Though he could not be able to keep his promise to provide ‘peaceful society to the nation and its citizen.
He has argued to completely eradicate the root of so called ‘terrorist’ and ‘conventionalist from the country at the time of imposing the ‘emergency rule’, but the series of destructive bomb blast has proved his ‘wordings’ wrong while country had lost its one of the most popular leader and former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.
President has declared the date of election on January 08, 2008 but Bhutto’s death has postponed it till one month. Now, the general election for the parliament and assembly is likely to be held on this month, as per authority says but date is not confirmed so far.
There are more than 200 renowned and honoured ex-defence men were gathered in the meeting comprising former chief of army staff Mirza Aslam Beg, Gen (retd) Talat Masood, Gen (retd) Hameed Gul, Gen (retd) Jamshed Gulzar Kiani, Vice-Admiral (retd) Tasneem, Gen (r) Faiz Ali Chishti, (a close ally of former president Gen Ziaul Haq), Air Marshal (r) Asghar Khan, Brig (r) M Mehmood and many more.
