New Delhi, June 15 (ANI): Fayaz Jumaa Khamis, a former UAE international football player has been sentenced to death on charges of murdering his neighbour three years ago.
Another former Sharjah Club Emirati player, Mohammad Najib., and Khamis's brother, Mosses, were also sentenced to death in the case.
The federal Supreme Court pronounced an irrevocable death penalty to Khamis and two others for stabbing a man to death during a fight at a parking lot in Sharjah on April 15, 2008.
Khamis, 30, a defender who played 11 games for the UAE national football team.
Khamis's lawyer, Salim bin Sahoh, said the decision was announced in less than five minutes after he concluded his argument, and he is seeking a legal way to object, The National reports.
Under UAE law, however, there is no further appeal. Only the President, Sheikh Khalifa, or the Ruler of Sharjah, Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, can halt the execution or issue a pardon. (ANI)
