Hyderabad, June 13 (ANI): Communist Party of India - Marxist (CPM) General Secretary Prakash Karat has said that the party has decided to take corrective steps at political and organisational level in West Bengal following its defeat in the recently held Assembly elections.
Talking to reporters after conclusion of the three-day meet of CPI (M) Politburo and Central Committee on Sunday, Party General Secretary, Prakash Karat has said the party is keen to know the reasons for people opting for a change in the recently held in the West Bengal assembly polls, marking the end of three-decade long governance.
"The people have voted for a change and our review report has gone into this issue, to find out what are the reasons which impelled people to opt for change and on the basis of identifying these reasons and nature of the erosion of support among different sections of people in Bengal, certain corrective steps and measures have also been suggested," he added.
Meanwhile, he blamed the ganging up of political forces for the party's poor performance.
"About 388 left-front and CPI activists have been killed, a large number of them by the Maoists and there has been a unity; from the extreme right to the extreme left poached under the TMC (Trinamool Congress) combine in Bengal. This has also had its impact on this election and our performance," said Karat.
He further said the Central Committee of CPM has drafted a report, which contains recommendations to strengthen the party and re-instate it's lost dignity.
"The review report adopted by the central committee set out some of the corrective steps to be taken at the political and organisational level to help the party regain the lost ground. Though it will be long and arduous process, the party will embark on that," he added.
In the West Bengal polls, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) won 227 seats out of 294 in the elections, while the ruling Left Front, led by the CPM only get 62 seats. (ANI)
