New Delhi/Dehradun, June 11 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday yet again charged the UPA Government for the crackdown on yoga guru Baba Ramdev and his supporters last week at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan.
"Everyone has seen the atrocities committed by the government and the police against the people. Women and children were beaten up, sadhus were beaten up. How could the government have resorted to shelling tear gas in an enclosed space? According to the law you cannot fire tear gas in such areas because people could die. And last week tear gas was fired at the people within a closed space," said BJP spokesperson Ravishankar Prasad.
"Kapil Sibal said no one was injured in the incident. 70 people were injured, out of which three of them are in critical condition. One of them is Rajbala Devi who entire backbone was broken due to a lathi charge. That news was in the Delhi newspapers," he added.
The BJP leader further said the government crackdown shows the treatment given to people, who raise their voices against corruption.
"What does this mean? This crackdown shows the treatment that Govt metes out to people who speak against corruption. The Manmohan Singh government is the most corrupt government since independence. The repressive character of this government is becoming increasingly evident with more and more corruption coming out," said Ravishankar Prasad.
"The BJP strongly believes that Dr. Manmohan Singh Government will not take any credible and effective steps in curbing black money or in bringing back the foreign bank accounts, which are the profit of crime and corruption because the face of its own people will be exposed," he added.
Meanwhile, Baba Ramdev's fast over black money and corruption has entered its eighth day today.
Amid concerns by Ramdev's followers and several party activists, all efforts are being made to persuade him to call off his fast.
The doctors attending on Ramdev today said the health condition of the yoga guru is improving and he is being treated in a VIP ward
"Last night, we observed a sudden fall in Baba Ramdev's parameters, which we succeeded in bringing back to normal through immediate medical treatment. Presently, all the parameters of Baba Ramdev are in control, but he is feeling difficulty in speaking and sitting," Dr Deepak Goel, part of the medical team that is monitoring Ramdev's health, told reporters.
"He is reporting symptoms of fatigue and weakness. This is the situation for today. A team of specialised doctors, who are experts in their respective fields, are administering the treatment to Baba Ramdev and the situation is under control. His blood pressure is 110/78 and his pulse is 68," he added.
The fasting yoga guru was shifted on a stretcher to a waiting ambulance at his Patanjali Yogpeeth and taken out of Haridwar on Friday.
Ramdev was given glucose on Friday, but he has refused to end his hunger strike.
The yoga guru has been on a hunger strike against corruption along with 65,000 followers when the Delhi Police on the Central government's orders dismantled the elaborate camp late on the night of June 4 that had been set up at New Delhi's Ramlila Maidan. (ANI)
