Srinagar, June 8 (ANI): Director General of Police (DGP) Kuldeep Khoda has said security forces needed to be on alert as efforts to infiltrate from across the border into Kashmir region are still on.
Speaking on the sidelines of a function here, Khoda said security forces have to be on alert all the time, as militants are trying their best to enter into the country.
"The security has always to be on alert because the militancy is not finished yet. The effort from across the border is still on. The capability and intention from across to continue with militancy is still there. So we have to be alert," he added.
Khoda further said Srinagar is one of the most sensitive areas and needed to be tackled with extra care.
"We do not count militants like that but the general estimate is around 250 to 300. We will take due care in Srinagar and our effort is not only to secure Srinagar but all over the state but obviously Srinagar is more sensitive. We have to be extra careful about it," he added.
According to army officials around 700 militants are waiting across the border to infiltrate into the Kashmir valley.
In central Kashmir, which comprises the districts of Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal, police estimates the presence of 15 militants.
Most of the militants in the central Kashmir are active in the peripheries of Budgam district, which lies close to the Pir Panjal mountain range. (ANI)
