Thiruvananthapuram, June 2 (ANI): Congress nominee G Karthikeyan was today elected as the speaker of the Kerala assembly, defeating CPI (M) candidate A K Balan.
62-year-old Karthikeyan secured 73 votes against former electricity minister Balan, who got 68 votes.
Pro tem speaker N Sakthan of the Congress presided over the proceedings of the House.
141 members of the assembly participated in the voting, including the one nominated Anglo-Indian member of the Congress party. (ANI)
