Bihar BJP minister Ramadhar Singh resigns

Patna , Thu, 19 May 2011 ANI

Patna, May 19 (ANI): Bihar Cooperative Minister and BJP leader Ramadhar Singh has resigned from the NDA government in the state, following controversy over a speech made by him in 1992.

Singh has submitted his resignation to the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar late last night.

A case had been registered against Ramadhar Singh for rendering a communal speech in Aurangabad district in 1992. He was declared an absconder by a court in May 1995 after he repeatedly failed to appear before it.

He has three more cases registered against him between 2003 and 2005 under the ST/SC Atrocities Act.

Singh is an MLA from Aurangabad, who retained his seat in 2010 assembly election and was appointed minister from the BJP quota.

Earlier, Singh denied the charges saying that he is not absconding, but admitted he is on bail. The Minister had said, "I am facing 14 cases and on bail in all the cases."

"Four cases against me have been dropped. I have listed all the cases in my affidavit submitted to the Election Commission. Most of the cases are election-related," he added. (ANI)
