Hazaribagh (Jharkhand), May 15(ANI): Around 250 Maoists on Sunday burnt trucks and opened fire on people in Jharkhand's Hazaribagh district, where they were working for the construction of National Highway-33's four-lane road.
To derail the contraction work, Maoists attacked the base camp and burnt around 32 trucks in the premises.
"They didn't talk anything, they just came and burnt the trucks and after that they started firing and our police also fired back on them," said Gurmeet Singh, camp official.
Talking to the mediapersons, Singh also said that the Maoists came and opened fire at the base camp.
"When we informed the police that somebody is firing, till that time we didn't know that who are these people but later we came to know that they were the Maoists," he added.
The Maoist insurgency has gripped nearly one-third of the country in violence, spreading into rural pockets in 20 of India's 28 states.
Hundreds of people have been killed and injured in the violence, perpetrated by both the rebels as well as the security forces in counter operations. (ANI)
