The Australia cricket on Saturday named Cameron White to replace injured leg spinner Bryce McGain for the upcoming four-test series in India starting on Thursday (Oct 09).
Cameron, 25, who was also a part of Indian Premier League Twenty20 from the side of Bangalore Royal Challengers in April this year has so far played in 21 one-day internationals (ODIs) and a good experience of Indian condition. White was also part of the Australian squad for the tour of India in 2004.
The chairman of Australian cricket team selectors, Andrew Hilditch, said: "We feel that Cameron's right-arm leg spin and experience in Indian conditions, where he has just returned after captaining the Australia A one-day team to a tournament victory, is the correct option and will provide a good balance to our slow bowling attack."
Though he is yet to play in Test cricket, the Victoria all rounder who is a handy lower order batsman is expected to balance the team composition. He will join the squad on October 6 in Bangalore ahead of the first Test.
McGain, who was considered as the leading spinner in the present squad, unfortunately had to leave the squad with a severe shoulder strain. He had complained pain during the practice session and hence needed several weeks to recover, as was stated in an official release.
