New Delhi, May 10 (ANI): The Delhi High Court on Tuesday directed former Andhra Pradesh Governor and veteran Congress leader N D Tiwari to give his blood samples on June 1 to ascertain the veracity of lawyer Rohit Shekhar, who is claiming to be his biological son.
The court official also asked Rohit Shekhar and his mother Ujjwala Sharma to be present in the court's dispensary to give their respective blood samples for the test.
"The single judge bench comprising S. Ravindra Bhat, who gave a historical order on December 23, 2010, and the division bench not only that they upheld it, but they showed great urgency in this regard, saying that the irreparable loss is bound to visit the plaintiff if these orders, the DNA is not conducted with immediate effect," said Ujwala Sharma.
"Because there is every risk, there is a possibility of very vital evidence being lost forever and the division bench, this observation was upheld by the Supreme Court," she added.
Shekhar slammed Tiwari for delaying the proceedings of the paternity suit.
"I would like to say that the lawyer of N. D. Tiwari and he himself were doing a shameful and disgusting deed by not following the verdict of Supreme Court," said Shekhar.
"On one hand, the lawyer said that his client was too old and not keeping well but in the court we showed the newspapers cuttings, in which from January till today, N. D. Tiwari was carrying out political campaigns in Dehradun, Haldwani and in whole Uttarakhand state," he added.
The court had on December 23 last year turned down the plea of 85-year-old Tiwari that he cannot be forced to undergo the DNA test, saying it is the right of a child to know his or her biological father.
The Delhi High Court had on November 12 last year dismissed veteran Tiwari's plea challenging imposition of Rs 75,000 as cost on him for seeking deletion of certain paragraphs from a paternity suit filed against him by Shekhar.
The apex court had on May 10 last year dismissed Tiwari's appeal challenging the verdict of the High Court to adjudicate the paternity suit.
The High Court had also rejected Tiwari's plea for dismissal of the petition on the ground that it was filed 31 years after the petitioner was born in order to malign his character.
Tiwari had quit as Andhra Pradesh Governor following allegations of his involvement in a sex scandal inside Raj Bhavan. (ANI)
