Rajkot, May 9 (ANI): The homespun Khadi business is affected in Gujarat's Rajkot city due to the hike in its rate.
The increase in price has forced customers to opt for other materials, resulting in a decline in demand of the cloth.
Customers said they are not willing to purchase Khadi cloths due to its soaring price.
"We have come here to purchase Khadi cloths. But the price of cotton has gone up, which is affecting this fabric as well. The cloths which were earlier available for Rs. 120 have now reached Rs.150-170," said Prasad Mori.
They further said the government should introduce some norms to make Khadi cloths affordable to public.
"The government has to come up with some norms to reduce the price of Khadi so that we could use this instead of cloths that are not of Indian origin. This cloth would be very comfortable in this hot season comparing to others," said Poonam Aggarwal.
The cost of Khadi production is much higher than the normal fabric due to major involvement of the manpower while other fabrics are mainly produced on power looms. (ANI)
