Srinagar, May 9 (ANI): The spring exhibition, organised on the bank of Dal Lake that showcased exclusive collection of crafts and food stalls, attracted many tourists in Kashmir
The idea behind organising the event in the Kashmir Valley was to emphasise the use of eco-friendly products in daily lifestyle.
"Our main focus was to bring in handcrafted, handmade, eco-friendly products. Also to give platform to the Kashmiri entrepreneurs who don't have a shop space and also to those who are doing interesting things," said Ramneek Kaur, an organiser.
Customers said that the exhibition is offering items of very high quality and that is why it is attracting a lot of people.
"The products have very good finish and it is encouraging tourists to come in and visit the exhibition. People from outside India have also come; we do have Kashmiri products in the exhibition. This will help people to mingle amongst themselves and simultaneously it will also boost the business," said Sarita Kohli.
The artwork included Dastarkhan Ranthambore with textiles and home furnishings, eco-friendly accessories, toys from south India, knitted crafts, tussar silks (a variety of Indian silk) and handcrafted clothing.
"It's very beautiful and they are developing craft in order to made them more sustainable and that's very important and by heaven's grace the profits will go to the producers themselves. That's the ultimate aim," said Mary Thomas, a tourists.
The two- day exhibition also offered a fusion of traditional skills and contemporary designs featuring Kashmiri Pashmina, patterned namdas, Dalgate potter, paper machine, walnut wood, willow and copper crafts, some interesting food preserves, organic products and books. (ANI)
