Hazarika asks Baruah not to disrupt ULFA peace talks

Guwahati , Sun, 08 May 2011 ANI

Guwahati, May 8 (ANI): Pro-talk United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) leader Mrinal Hazarika on Sunday lashed out at the outfit's elusive commander-in-chief, Paresh Baruah, and asked him not to disturb the peace talks.

"We have been requesting again and again that he (Paresh Baruah) be at a safe distance and should not disturb the peace process. Let him give a moral support, let the process move ahead and if the process doesn't move in the right direction and if the government betrays the people of Assam, people of Assam will once again support Paresh Baruah," said Hazarika.

"More and more will then join the ULFA. But till then, he should be quiet," he added.

Baruah, who is against peace talks with the Indian Government, is believed to be hiding somewhere in Myanmar.

Senior functionaries of ULFA led by ULFA Chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa had entered into unconditional talks with the Central Government to find a solution to issue which has caused violence in Assam for over two decades. (ANI)
