New Delhi, Apr 28 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) criticized the ruling Congress Party on Thursday for 'politicising' the contents of the Public Account Committee's draft report that was leaked to certain sections of the media a day ago.
BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman slammed the Congress for diluting the credibility of central investigative agencies, such as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC).
"Since yesterday, we are finding the spectacle of the Congress party making a mockery at the intelligence of the Indian public. Congress is the one, who is 'politicising' the PAC debate. Congress's attempt at denigrating institutions is very well known," Sitharaman told reporters here.
"Earlier, it was the CVC, then it became the Parliament itself, the CBI always, and now it is the PAC," she added.
Sitharaman further urged the Congress party to debate the report in the PAC and Parliament, instead of discussing the issue in public.
"The Congress party should now stop politicising the issue, go to the PAC meeting and as members of the Parliament, members of the PAC do their duty rather than come out in open, talk about it in the public and also charge the chairman of the PAC as politicising the whole matter," she said.
Charging PAC chairman Murli Manohar Joshi of having 'malafide intention' of destabilising the government, the Congress and DMK leaders of the panel had on Wednesday demanded his resignation over the draft report
Congress leaders Navin Jindal Saifuddin Soz and KS Rao, and DMK member T Siva criticized Joshi for pushing the report speedily for 'political mileage'.
The PAC in its report on Wednesday indicted former Telecom Minister A. Raja for misleading the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, in 2008.
The draft, however, questions the officials of the Prime Minister's Office, while dealing with the 2G spectrum issues.
According to the PAC report, the PMO could have intervened faster in objections presented on A Raja's 'First Come First Serve Policy'.
The draft also says that Raja misled Dr. Manmohan Singh to fulfill his 'nefarious designs' leading to a staggering loss of revenue.
The draft further adds that the Prime Minister was aware of the advice given by the Law Ministry, which was contrary to the view of the Telecom Ministry.
The report is also critical of Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram, who was the Finance Minister then.
According to the PAC report: "We are shocked and dismayed that instead of initiating stringent action against all those responsible for the loss, the Finance Minister in his note asked the Prime Minister to close the matter." (ANI)
