Cold waves shiver North India; Capital sings 'Delhi Ki Sardi'

It seems that Sensex and Weather have ‘secretly’ tied the not because both of them dipped hefty on Monday and Tuesday which partially recovered on Wednesday proving this fact. According to Metrological department of India, ‘Western disturbance from the Himalayan region and nearby plain regions’ have shivered the entire northern part of India including the capital city. The icy winds from the hilly areas made most of the plain chilly since Monday.

Delhi recorded the second lowest temperature (2.6 degree Celsius) in Minimum while Adampur district of Punjab registered the chilliest place in the plain region of the country by dipping the mercury below five degree from zero (-5 degree Celsius) on Tuesday. This was the coldest night in its 35 years of weather record for Adampur. Delhi on January 02, 2008 has recorded the chilliest night of this winter season.

According to Meteorological department of India, “Snowfall in northern parts of the country has resulted in icy winds blowing towards the north-west plains and this is causing a dip in temperature.”

“This can be likely to continue till Friday and then the minimum temperature may be increased”, added met department.

The day temperature of the capital was also recorded lower as against the average usual temperature been registered in other years in the same period of time. It was maximum 17 degree Celsius notches four degrees below from usual temperature. After touching the 14 degree Celsius on January 14, the mercury has gone down rapidly since Wednesday.

While in the other parts of the country, the minimum temperature is hovering around 02-06 degree Celsius nicking below an average of 5 degree Celsius generally in the same period of time.

The weatherman in the met office has predicted to be constant the mercury on four degree Celsius with cloudy day on Thursday and Friday in the capital, while in the northern part of the country, it will also get some relief as the western disturbance is shifting from the eastern areas.

According to reports coming from Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, Meerut recorded the coldest place on Tuesday morning with a minimum temperature of 2.4 degree Celsius, while Chandigarh, the capital of Punjab and Harayana recorded the minimum temperature 1.6 degree. Patiala of Punjab and Karnal of Harayana recorded its coldest night by notching 0.8 degree and -0.3 degree Celsius on Tuesday.

The hilly areas of Jammu and Kashmir are freezing with the minimum temperature of minus 22 degree Celsius while Himachal Pradesh’s minimum temperature is hovering around 2-3 degree Celsius. Shimla and Kullu Manali are attracting the visitors and Bollywood due to its icy layer on the mountain and registering the minimum temperature continuously below zero degree on both the place.
