PCB issues tougher regulations for registration of players' agents post spot-fixing saga

Lahore, April 21(ANI): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has issued a new set of tougher egulations for the registration of players' agents in the light of last year's spot-fixing scandal that ocked Pakistan cricket.

Three Pakistani players- Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamir- were found uilty of corruption in a Test match at Lord's last year after a British tabloid videotaped ookmaker Mazhar Majeed giving details of his arrangement with the trio.

Majeed and his brother Azhar not only represented the disgraced trio, but also several other akistani players for the last few years.

Under its new regulations, the PCB has made it mandatory for agents wishing to represent akistani players, whether based in overseas or in Pakistan, to obtain several clearances.

These include police clearance of the area or the country where the agent resides, clearance rom the cricket board of the country in which the agent is residing and clearance from the akistan High Commission in the country where the agent lives.

The agents will now also have to submit a non-refundable processing fee of Rs 200,000 to the CB which has the discretion of rejecting or accepting any application although the agent has een given the right to appeal to the Chairman of the Board.

The criteria set for an agent to qualify for registration have also been made tougher, and includes lauses that he is of good character and reputation in the PCB's opinion, he does not have any onviction for any offence involving dishonesty or deception or moral turpitude in Pakistan or he country where he permanent or temporarily resides, and that he is not an undischarged ankrupt or subject to bankruptcy proceedings in Pakistan or the country where he permanent r temporarily resides.

The new Agents Regulations 2010 will be immediately applicable to all persons wishing to act s agents for the cricketers representing Pakistan at all levels or who participate in cricket atches/tournaments organised by the PCB, a board official announced.

"The new regulations are also binding on those cricketers utilising services of such agents," The ation quoted the official, as saying. (ANI)
