Srinagar, Apr 17(ANI): The second phase of panchayat polls in Jammu and Kashmir passed on peacefully today with large number of people participating in electing 275 Sarpanches and 2,031 Panches in eight CD blocks.
The election were held on 24 Sarpanch Constituencies and 200 Panch Constituencies in CD block Wavoora, Kupwara, 33 Sarpanch and 246 Panch Constituencies in CD block Uri, Baramulla, 21 Sarpanch and 145 Panch Constituencies in CD block Lar, Ganderbal, 38 Sarpanch and 149 Panch Constituencies in CD Block Nagam, Budgam, 17 Sarpanch and 123 Panch Constituencies in CD Block Pahloo, Kulgam, 49 Sarpanch and 390 Panch Constituencies in CD Block Chenani, Udhampur, 35 Sarpanch and 254 Panch Constituencies in CD Block Vijaypur, Samba and 58 Sarpanch and 424 Panch Constituencies in CD Block R. S. Pura, Jammu.
The poll percentage remained 85 percent in Kupwara, 86.95 percent in Baramulla, 85.46 percent in Ganderbal, 77 percent in Budgam, 81.48 percent in Kulgam, 77 percent in Udhampur, 84 percent in Samba and 83.40 percent in Jammu with a total percentage of 82.10 percent in all these blocks.
Around 3,000 security personnel were deployed for the polls in the state, where a total of 2,139 candidates are in the fray in the second phase.
The first leg of the 16-phase polls was held in eight blocks of the state on April 13. The polls will conclude on June 30.
The panchayat polls are being held after the successful state assembly elections in 2008. The last panchayat elections were held in 2001. By Tahir Nadeem Khan (ANI)
