New Delhi, Apr 14 (ANI): President Pratibha Devisingh Patil led the nation in paying homage to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, popularly known as Babasaheb Ambedkar, on his 120th Birth anniversary here today.
President Patil offered floral tributes at the statue of Baba Saheb at Sansad Bhavan Lawns in the Parliament House complex in the morning.
Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi also offered tributes to Dr. Ambedkar.
Among other leaders who paid floral homage to Baba Saheb included the Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Mukul Wasnik, Women and Child Development Minister Krishna Tirath, Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit, and Minister of State for Textiles Panabaka Lakshmi.
Thousands of people visited the Parliament House Complex since morning to pay tributes to the messiah of the marginalised and downtrodden sections of society amidst chanting of slogan 'Baba Saheb Amar Rahe', 'Jai Bheem' and 'Jai Bharat'.
The function began with a prayer by Buddhist monks. The artists of the Song and Drama Division presented inspiring songs.
The function was organised by the Ambedkar Foundation, an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
