Guwahati, Apr 12 (ANI): Realizing the futility of violence, two United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) cadres have chosen to return to the mainstream and work for the welfare of Assam society.
They have realized that militancy is the reason for the backwardness of the state.
Forty-six-year-old Rajkumar Dowarah was earlier a political organizer of the ULFA before surrendering in 1992.
He was recruited by ULFA in 1985, but after realizing the futility of violence, Dowarah decided to quit and serve the people democratically.
Dowarah said ULFA leaders were only after money and are not concerned about the people.
"Armed revolution poses a serious threat to the life and property of the people. So I appeal to the ULFA leaders that they should come forward and talk with the centre so that a solution can be found for the people of Assam," he said.
Jayanta Hazarika, who quit the ULFA along with 170 other cadres in 1992, said: "One cannot win hearts by killing people. One has to devote his or her life to the betterment of the people. So in 1995-96 I started social work that could bring me closer to my own people.
Post his surrender, Hazarika started a business in Sivasagar. In 2001, he contested elections for the first time, but succeeded in winning only in 2006. (ANI)
