Perambalur, Apr 11 (ANI): Former telecom minister A. Raja's brother, A Kaliaperumal has been arrested on charges of "bribing" voters in Perumbalur District in the run up to the April 13 Tamil Nadu assembly polls.

Kaliaperumal was allegedly caught red-handed last night while distributing money at Labbakudi Kadu and Irayur. He was produced before a court, which released him on bail.

Kaliaperumal has been slapped with cases under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including bribery and for violation of the Representation of People's Act.

According to reports, Kaliaperumal also misused a vehicle allotted to an Independent candidate to campaign for the Dravida Munettra Kazhagam (DMK) nominee.

Monday is the last day of campaigning in Tamil Nadu, which will hold elections on April 13 to elect a new Assembly.

The ruling DMK-Congress alliance is facing a tough fight from the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), which has tied up with Vijaykanth's Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK). (ANI)
