London, Apr 6 (ANI): Liverpool owner John W Henry has blamed former coach Rafa Benitez for weakening the club's playing squad he inherited from his predecessors.
Henry, frontman for the Fenway Sports Group, arrived last October after a 300 million pound buy-out from American duo Tom Hicks and George Gillett.
Henry confessed the Benitez-built squad he found was alarmingly short on talent.
"The worst surprise was the lack of depth. Our biggest concern was this issue - and it was a bigger issue than we feared.
"There was a huge, multi-year payroll for a squad with very little quality in depth," The Sun quoted Henry, as saying.
Henry promptly splashed the entire 50 million pound banked from Fernando Torres' move to Chelsea on Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll.
The Americans will do the same this summer, with the likes of Stewart Downing, Ashley Young and Charlie Adam on the club's wanted-list.enry is convinced Liverpool will lift a first Premier League crown during his reign. (ANI)
