Chennai, Apr 4 (ANI): Campaigning ahead of April 13 Tamil Nadu assembly polls,ll India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam AIADMK Chief J Jayalalithaa has slammed the state's ruling Dravidam Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) for corruption and price rise.
"DMK government led by Karunanidhi should be sent back home. It has been involved in corruption, heavy price rise and crime has increased in the state. So, this has made the livelihood of the people of Tamil Nadu very bad. So, I request you to please vote for me in the elections," said Jayalalithaa.
Addressing a campaign meeting at Vikramasingapuram near Ambasamudram constituency, Jayalalithaa said: "Power cut, uncontrolled price-rise, rice and sand smuggling, rise of rowdy elements, bogus lottery tickets and illicit liquor sale" are rampant in the DMK government.
If the "golden opportunity" presented by this election "to overthrow the DMK government is missed, we may never retrieve the state," she said.
Later addressing a meeting in Madurai, she said: "No other scam has shaken the country so strongly as the 2G spectrum scandal."
"This has happened even as Kalanidhi Maran and Dayanidhi Maran family is being declared among the richest in the world. And Tamil Nadu is reeling under a debt of Rs one lakh crore," she alleged.
She said that under her rule Tamil Nadu was leading in economic growth and the law and order was maintained. But the State has become backward under the DMK regime.
Jayalalithaa assured that unruly elements would be brought under control if the AIADMK-led front was elected.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister M. K. Stalin said his father and Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi has fulfilled all the assurance made by him in the last five years.
Stalin said that Karunanidhi has assured that pension amount for senior citizens would be increased and free laptops provide to students. So people should vote for the rising Sun symbol in the election.
Regional parties dominate the political scene in Tamil Nadu with DMK winning the majority of seats in the 2006 elections.
A total of 2,773 candidates will contest for seats in 234 Tamil Nadu Assembly constituencies. (ANI)
