Jhargram (West Bengal), Apr 2(ANI): Maoist rebels killed a schoolteacher in West Bengal's West Midnapore district on Saturday.
Parbat Mahato (42), a worker of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M)'s youth wing, Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), was abducted by the rebels near his residence.
Parbat, a para-teacher of the Ghritakham Primary School in Jhargram, was picked up when he had gone to take a bath at a nearby pond at about 5.30 am.
Topu Mahato, a relative of Parbat, said that although the deceased was a member of the CPI (M)'s youth wing, he never went out much and led a peaceful life as a schoolteacher.
"He never used to go out much. He got up in the morning to relieve himself and take a bath to go to the school. He went to the toilet but never came back," Topu said.
He added that the Maoists killed the teacher for no reason.
According to reports, Parbat's body was found later near a culvert, about a kilometre from the village.
It appeared that he was beaten up before being gunned down. (ANI)
