Coimbatore, Apr 1 (ANI): The leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj, has slammed Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi for giving away freebies to woo voters.
Addressing a party campaign here on Thursday, Swaraj criticized Karunanidhi for making false promises to the people.
On the issue of corruption, Swaraj said Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has always evaded answering questions and always baited on someone else.
On the Sri Lankan Tamil issue, she called for the "dignified" rehabilitation of all displaced Tamils and suggested that Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee form a monitoring panel to ensure the proper utilisation of the Rs.500 crore allocated by India for this purpose.
Swaraj said there was a need for an effective opposition to audit the ruling party's governance.
A total of 2,773 candidates will contest for seats in 234 Tamil Nadu Assembly constituencies. The deadline for the withdrawal of nominations ended Wednesday evening. (ANI)
