Chennai, Mar 29 (ANI): Ahead of the crucial April 13 assembly election in Tamil Nadu, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP J K Ritheesh was detained after a clash between his partymen and DMDK-AIADMK workers at Kalavankudi, police said here today.
According to police, cases under various sections of IPC, including criminal intimidation, prevention of atrocities against SC/ST people and obscene acts were charged against them in connection with the incident.
All of them were remanded to judicial custody late last night and have been lodged at Madurai Central Prison early today.
The DMK cadre was campaigning at Solanthur village for Minister Suba Thangavelan when the incident occurred.
They tried to repair a damaged road to facilitate the entry of Thangavelan into Kalavakudi village to which AIADMK union secretary Anandh objected calling it a poll code violation.
This led to the clash between the two groups. Soon, a police team arrived at the scene and stopped the brawl.
The villagers then blocked the road traffic demanding the arrest of the MP and his supporters. Police said ten persons including the MP had been detained for interrogation. (ANI)
