Delhi student killed, incident shocks city

New Delhi, Tue, 08 Mar 2011 ANI

New Delhi, Mar 8 (ANI): The killing of Radhika Tanwar, a second-year degree student, on the International Women's Day has shamed the national capital with political leaders condemning the incident described it to be really sad, as it took place at a time when the nation is talking of women empowerment.

Condemning the incident, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said: "It is a matter of shame for each one of us that the capital city of India is considered the most unsafe city...this is unacceptable to us."

NCW Chairperson Girija Vyas and CPI (M) Politburo member Brinda Karat terming the incident to be 'very sad' wondered why such incidents recur.

"I condemn the incident. Why do such incidents recur?" said Vyas.

"It is a very sad incident. The incident took place when we are talking about women empowerment and celebrating Women's Day," added Karat.

21-year-old Tanwar was shot at by unidentified persons near South Delhi's Ramlal Anand College this morning, where she was enrolled.

She was shot while she was walking across a pedestrian bridge near the Ramlal Anand College.

The attacker, however, managed to escape in the commotion that erupted after he fired at Radhika. (ANI)
