Bijnor, Mar 8(ANI): Police on Tuesday beat up protesting Samajwadi Party (SP) activists, as they blocked roads in Uttar Pradesh's Bijnor district.
The SP activists demonstrated in Bijnor city against the state government run by Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
Police beat up the protesting activists with batons and detained many of them, while the rest fled the scene.
The police crackdown on the activists resulted in chaos on the highway around Bijnor.
Many buses and other vehicles plying on the highway were stranded, as they could not enter the city.
The SP is on a three-day-long protest over corruption and misgovernance charges of the state government.
The BSP government is under fire due to charges of corruption, spiralling prices of essential commodities, and the controversy surrounding BSP legislator Purushottam Naresh Dwivedi charged with raping a minor Dalit (lower caste) girl.
The protest march is scheduled from Monday to Wednesday. (ANI)
