Gorakhpur, Mar.7 (ANI): Families of Indians stranded in Libya fear for their relatives after reports of shelling and lack of essentials emerged from the strife-torn nation.
The villagers say they want their relatives to be brought back at the earliest, as they have no money or essential commodities left and the region was being shelled continuously.
Manoj, the head of the village, said: "Around 1,200 people went to Libya from Gorakhpur. Their family members are very sad and disturbed. They want them to return home safely."
" We spoke to the people stranded in Libya and they said they were in a very bad situation there. A lot of shelling is taking place. Their families just want them to return safely. They don't have much cash and are running out of cell phone balance. We are praying for the safe return of our people stranded in Libya," he added.
Shrimati Devi, the mother of an Indian stranded in Libya, said: "I just want my son to return safely from Libya. We are very disturbed here. Our son is facing lot of difficulties in Libya. We do not feel like eating anything. We are praying for the safe return of our children."
Another local Ramanand Kumar said that in their last conversation his brother had told the family that it was probably the last time they were speaking as situaton there was bad and the people stranded could get killed anytime.
The Indian government has been facing criticism for failing to evacuate citizens swiftly out of Libya like China and the United States.
