Thane, Mar.3 (ANI): Santosh Chapekar, cricket fan from Thane, showed his love for the game by displaying a collection of 2,000 autographs of cricketers from across the globe on cricket bats, balls, gloves and pads.
Chapekar said he has been collecting these autographs for 43 years.e said: "I am collecting these autographs for the last 43 years. I took the first autograph in school, and from then on, I have followed my passion of taking autographs."
"In college days I received a prize from Ajit Wadekar (a cricketer), I took his autograph, and then, I continued this process of taking autographs. I have more than 5,500 autographs from all fields and 2000 autographs from the field of sports, which include autographs of Wimbledon, cricket, table tennis, lawn tennis players," he added.
Chapekar says he built his collection after waiting for hours to get the autographs of players. He has almost 150 autographs of ace Indian batsman Sachin and over 38 of Rahul Dravid. He said it was his dream to open a museum of his collection of autographed cricket equipment.
Cricket is like a religion in India and cricket stars are revered like gods. With the country co-hosting the World Cup along with Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, the excitement is palpable. (ANI)
