Kochi, Feb.28 (ANI): Civil Aviation Minister Vayalar Ravi has said all arrangements for the evacuation of stranded Indians in Libya are in place and is taking place in full swing.
He said more Air India flights and ships with a capacity of carrying 100 passengers would be deployed to evacuate Indians in Libya. He added that one hired ship carrying 1000 Indians, mainly aged passengers, is already been anchored in Alexandria, Egypt.
" We will introduce more flights if necessary, Air India is ready with more flights. There is no problem," said Ravi.
He said two flights, would be sent to Libya to bring back more Indians.
He said it was not possible to deploy a helicopter service as Indians were scattered in different places. He pointed out that the government was doing its best to evacuate more people from Libya.
There were 18,000 stranded Indians in Libya, with a majority of them living in Tripoli which is one of the worst affected cities to be hit by the violent protests against the Muammar Gaddafi government.
