Riding on the stunning four goals scored by prolific striker Odafe Okolie Churchill Brothers, Goa registered a convincing 4-2 victory over Mahindra United in the ONGC I-League 11th round match played at the Nehru stadium, Fatorda, here on Monday.
With this win Churchill moved to 20 points and thus claimed the 3rd spot with just two points behind JCT (22 points). Leaders Dempo is way ahead leading the chart with 27 points while Mahindra remained on 14 points.
Churchill&rsquos &lsquoGod&rsquo Odafe once again proved &lsquoDemon&rsquo to others as all the goals scored by the man himself. There is no force to stop this whirlwind named Odafe and especially when he is on song just the way he was against Mahindra on Monday.
Churchill led 1-0 at half time and after that it was all over Odafe Odafe&hellip&hellip.. The Nigerian, who scored his third hat-trick of the league thus far as many more could come in the coming matches.
The Nigerian striker scored his first in the very 1st minute and then came up with three more goals in the second-half in the 62nd, 65th and 88th minute to take his I-League tally to 16 goals from just 10 matches.
The Mumbai outfit managed to reduce the score through Andrews M Pomeye (52nd) and Steven Dias (64th).
Churchill struck the right cord in the very first minute through Odafe Okolie, who neatly guided a fine grounder into the goal by dodging past rival defender after receiving a header from Mboyo Iyomi to make the scoreline 1-0.
Churchill&rsquos Odafe and Iyomi worked well in tandem to get past Mahindra defense on numerous occasions. Churchill almost doubled their score in the 10th minute after a swift defense-splitting pass from Iyomi set up Odafe for a clear chance but the latter&rsquos over ambitious shot hit the post.
Mahindra too got the opportunity to equalise in the 16th minute, Sushil Kumar Singh almost got the goal off Andrews Pomeye pass, but to Mahindra&rsquos dismay Churchill goalkeeper Vinay Singh evaded the attempt from close range.
Mahindra came out as totally different unit in the latter half as they got off the blocks too soon and found the equaliser in the 52nd minute through Andrews Pomeye, who scored off a pass from Douhou Pierre.
After that it&rsquos been raining goals as the goal glut triggered by Churchill&rsquos Nigerian. Odafe gave Churchill once again the lead (2-1) in the 62nd minute when he slotted home off a goal-rush.
Steven Dias&rsquo full-blooded shot restored parity again for Mahindra in the 64th but they conceded again a minute later, as Odafe&rsquos angular strike off Khan Thang Paite made it 3-2 in Churchill&rsquos favour.
From thereon, it was Churchill all the way as Odafe punctured jeepmen&rsquos fourth tyre with his fourth goal two minutes before the final whistle. Odafe unleashed a 25-yard scorcher off a neat pass from substitute D Raju to finish off the proceedings in style as it was commenced.
